So many critical figures in my life are Aquarians (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18), and I love their innovative energy. Innovation is a grossly overused word - here, I mean it in its broadest sense of simply meeting a need in a new way. My new favorite example of this is the Brazilian art of gambiologia, which is similar to hacking but for actual physical objects. This reminds me so much of my Aquarian dad, Tom Intrator, the self-anointed Prince of Engineering. He was a brilliant plasma physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory who mentored (along with his indefatigable wife) literally hundreds of students. One of his favorite personal slogans was that You Need The Right Tool For The Job. And if you don’t have it… make it! Some other notable Aquarians include Oprah (the myth, the legend! Can we please elect this woman president?), Tom Hiddleston (who not only plays a pitch-perfect Loki, but also crushes alongside Dr. House in Night Manager), and the mega-footballer Cristiano Ronaldo also hails from planet Aquarius. Long live the Aquarians! 🌊
Aquarians are represented by the water bearer, a symbol of innovation. They are social, generous, and trustworthy – absorbing everything from their environs and seeking knowledge and understanding. However, sometimes the deep thoughts run away with them, and they can be a bit spacey. Above all, they are witty, intellectual, independent and logical. Challenges may develop when taking these traits to an extreme, however – Aquarians can be (or, just appear) indifferent, detached, or “rebels without a cause”. Natural Aquarian confidence can be overexpressed and turn into a judgemental nature. But help is on the way - we have curated a (long!) list of gemstones that may be beneficial for you lot!
- Amethyst is your top hit for calming your mind’s turbulent waters. This gem is known for helping you tune into your own intuition, as well as guidance from higher realms and even your dreams. It is an amplifying stone, working with the energies of your third eye and crown chakras to support insight and creativity. It can also help with manifestation (bringing things into being, whether ideas or prototypes), as well as help you manage stress and anxiety.
- Angelite is known as the stone of awareness, enhancing non-verbal communication, situational attunement, perception, and vibrational awareness. Angelite allows us to maintain contact with reality while allowing our spiritual awareness to make its journeys. For these reasons, it is an effective stone for healers, mediators, and those seeking deeper self-knowledge. Angelite can also help to make “fuzzy” intuitions more comprehensible, by sharpening focus and slowing typical egoic reactions. It is also often used in meditations of acceptance, and is associated with the throat chakra. When this chakra is in balance, the flow of energy within the body and spirit is improved, as well as our ability to express our truth.
- Aquamarine is a lovely soothing and calming stone. It amplifies energies, working with the heart and throat and third eye chakras. It can also help with manifestation by aligning and balancing your chakras, as well as promoting courage. This is a great stone if you are seeking protection, or the support of your self-expression and discovery of a deeper spiritual truth.
- Emerald is known as the stone of successful love, opening the heart and refreshing the spirit. Its strong connection to the heart chakra invites compassion, unconditional love, and good fortune. Emerald also enhances memory, mental abilities, and focus, and can aid in uncovering limiting beliefs that you may not be aware of.
- Garnets are one of my favorites, currently. Most people think of a deep red, but garnets actually come in a range of colors from deep rusty brown to a lighter orange, as well as yellow and yellowish-green to deep green! Depending on the color, garnets can work with you root chakra (red color), sacral chakra (red-orange), or the heart chakra (green). Again, these are amplifying stones with solid grounding and protecting energy. And again, garnets support bringing things to life - manifestation. They are also revitalizing, boosting your energy and helping you with transitions you may face, such as major life events, or interior barriers such as emotional trauma or limiting beliefs.
- Moonstone may help support emotional stability and inner peace, as well as channel your inspiration. Moonstone embodies the divine feminine energy of the moon, connecting us to life’s ebb and flow and helping us cultivate compassion and tap into our intuition, self-discovery, and insight. It provides passive and relaxing yin energy, supports introspection & receptivity, balances emotions, and connects us to our subconscious. According to ayurveda, moonstone calms the pitta dosha. It is also connected to the third eye, solar plexus, and crown chakras.
- Pyrite is a strong protector stone, shielding its wearer from negative energy and pollutants, as well as increasing energy and confidence. It can help release negative energy and fears, including fears that may be blocking success, which is why it is associated with abundance, wealth, prosperity, and success. Pyrite is connected to the sun, and solar plexus chakra, lending it a bright, yang fire energy.
- Rose quartz is famous as the stone of unconditional love - and just look at it. Pink! The color of love, kindness and compassion. It is strongly connected to the heart chakra, supporting emotional healing aimed both at yourself and others (a.k.a. forgiveness). If you are seeking joy, peace, or even playfulness – this is for you.
You’ll see so many common themes above - these gemstones are nurturing and supporting, helping you deepen personal connections, and enhance your intuition, creativity, and communication. See what we have on tap for you Aquarians in the store!
